Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important political figure stated the vandalism left him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
